Fun & Fitness Swims
We offer swimming exercise for healthy dogs to have fun and get fit. Swimming is a great way to exercise young dogs and provides an intense cardiovascular workout. Our indoor heated pool features easy access via a walk-in ramp, and the jets can be turned on to create an “endless pool” experience.
In order to participate, swimmers must have a referral from their primary veterinarian, proof of rabies vaccination and a swim test with one of our trained therapists. We provide life vests and trained personnel in the pool to help pets experience the water. This program is not intended to be rehabilitation or therapy to treat any disease or condition and advanced advice on physical conditioning is not provided.
Swimming is by appointment only for 30 minute sessions, including up to 25 minutes of pool time. Once approved for the fun swim program by a therapist, sessions are scheduled on Saturday afternoons between the hours of 1pm-3pm with our trained therapy assistants.
Can my pet swim for fun at the Animal Therapy Center?Yes ! Our fun swim program is available to healthy dogs of all ages and sizes. Dogs in the fun swim program must have no prior or current health conditions, especially but not limited to orthopedic and cardiac conditions. Owners are welcome to watch but may not go in the water with their dog. Please be advised that we offer our fun swim program to dogs who can safely swim and the sessions do not include water acclimation training.
Your dog may qualify for recreational swimming if he or she:
- Is not severely overweight/obese
- Does not have severe arthritis
- Has not had recent surgery
- Does not have lingering medical or orthopedic problems
- Is not actively participating in a therapy program
